When designer Nick and friends ran into mechanical troubles on their Basque trip, they were helped out by the generosity of a local bike shop owner. He shared first-hand tales of the era of Merckx, the Mexico Olympics and a lifetime of racing… Nick realised there was a bit more to this chap than he’d assumed.

Their saviour turned out to be a somewhat unsung hero of professional cycling, Luis Zubero.
